Nova
Nova features a very traditional silhouette in luxurious embroidered tulle with boned bodice and built-in petticoat. The birds and florals on her fabric parallel her soft and whimsical shape intended to emphasise her elegance.
Berta bridal gowns were a huge inspiration for Nova.
Nova's purpose was to be an elegant evening gown for a valedictory dinner: she needed to be classy, comfortable but also retain contemporary style. Her classic silhouette means she is less likely to age poorly in images and memories but is flattering whilst staying appropriate. To avoid her looking plain and provide her with nice texture an embroidered tulle was chosen - keeping her stylish to the modern eye.
She was made to fit the model pictured, emphasising a small waist and showing off her back as a focal point.

Her inspiration originated from Berta's fall/winter 2018 evening collection, in which many traditional ballgown silhouettes were used with intricate embellishments or bodices that were low cut and sculpted perfectly to the wearers body. The decision to further explore these techniques in Nova was easy.

Nova aims to be whimsical, gentle and feminine.
This material swatch is the embroidered tulle which is cotton threads on a polyester tulle base. This was placed over layers of black polyester bridal tulle and a layer of black silk sandwash satin for opacity.
